Manchester United Nears Deal for Atalanta Midfielder Ederson

Manchester United has been monitoring Atalanta’s star midfielder, Ederson, for over two years, and it appears the lengthy wait is coming to an end.

In the summer of 2024, United aimed to revamp their midfield, with Ederson identified as a prime target for a new signing.

However, the club opted to bring in Manuel Ugarte from PSG for £50 million, a decision that has not panned out as they now seek to offload him this summer.

The Red Devils have shifted their focus back to the 26-year-old midfielder as they look to replace Ugarte, especially with Casemiro also on the verge of departure.

Michele Criscitiello has shared on X that an agreement is nearly finalized, with all parties reportedly on board for a move worth £43 million (€50 million).

This transaction will account for nearly a third of United’s £150 million budget set aside for three new midfielders this summer, leaving approximately £107 million available for a high-profile signing like Sandro Tonali or Elliot Anderson, along with plans to secure another backup player.

The impending deal also signals an end to Atlético Madrid’s interest in Ederson, which had emerged earlier this year with reports of agreed personal terms for a potential summer transfer.
