Tottenham Eyes Goalkeeper Replacement as Vicario’s Exit Looms

Tottenham Hotspur is actively seeking a goalkeeper this summer amid growing speculation about Guglielmo Vicario’s future with the club.

Vicario is expected to conclude his three-year tenure in North London. The Italian international recently underwent surgery during the March international break and has only just returned to fitness. For several months, he has been linked to Inter Milan. While he was available for the Chelsea match on Tuesday, coach Roberto De Zerbi opted to keep Antonin Kinsky as goalkeeper.

It appears that Vicario may have already played his final match for the Lilywhites, with Inter Milan likely to be his destination this summer. Although recent reports indicate that Inter has withdrawn from the race to sign the 29-year-old, it is expected that he will depart N17 at the end of the season.

Kinsky has demonstrated remarkable resilience, bouncing back from a tough performance against Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League in February. With his improved form in recent weeks, he looks set to have the opportunity to claim the No. 1 spot next season, but Spurs must still invest in a new goalkeeper.

Benfica Keeper Expresses Desire to Reunite with De Zerbi

Benfica goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin, who ended the 2025/26 season with 13 clean sheets, has shared insights on what it’s like to work with De Zerbi.

The 24-year-old spent the 2021/22 season under De Zerbi at Shakhtar Donetsk and explained how the coach transformed his perspective on football.

“Crazy. He opened my eyes to another way of playing, even for me, as a goalkeeper. He wants everyone to know their role. We still ask ourselves how we played football before him, because he opened a new path for us to play,” Trubin said in an interview with Portuguese newspaper A Bola.

The Ukraine international expressed a desire to work with De Zerbi once more, alongside his aspirations to play in the Premier League.

“He could still teach me a lot. There is no player in the world who does not want to play in the Premier League, but I have to continue working hard,” he added.

Could De Zerbi Consider a Move for Trubin?

With Tottenham in need of a new goalkeeper next season, attracting a top talent will require them to remain in the Premier League. If successful, Trubin could be a viable replacement for the departing Vicario.

Since joining Benfica from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2023, Trubin has established himself as a strong candidate, earning recognition across Europe. At just 24, he has his prime years ahead as a goalkeeper. He fits well into De Zerbi’s high-risk system, comfortable with playing out from the back and excelling as a distributor.

Given Trubin’s dreams of playing in the Premier League, it makes sense for Tottenham to explore a move for him this summer.
