Barcelona‘s Marcus Rashford Shines in Debut Season Amid Bid for Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon
Marcus Rashford has had a fantastic debut season for Barcelona, as the England international has shown why he deserves a move to the Catalan giants.
On his loan spell, Rashford scored 14 goals and grabbed 14 assists in 49 games, helping Barca retain their LaLiga title for a second year running.
As such, the winger has impressed manager Hansi Flick, with the Barca boss keen to retain the 28-year-old.
However, Sky Sports has now reported that Barcelona have launched a bid for Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon.
Gordon, who plays in the same role as Rashford, has also delivered this season, despite Newcastle finishing in 12th in the Premier League.
In 46 appearances, Gordon has scored 17 goals and grabbed five assists, including ten goals in 12 Champions League matches.
It’s understood that Barcelona have put in a £70 million offer for Gordon, with the bid being £44 million more than the £26 million optional buy clause they have for Rashford.
As such, given the club’s routine financial struggles, especially with Gordon being three years younger than Rashford, this looks to throw doubt over Barcelona’s intentions around Marcus Rashford.
However, Barcelona aren’t alone in their interest in Gordon, as Bayern Munich have also been monitoring the Newcastle winger.
Newcastle are currently in talks with both parties, as the bid from Barcelona is understood to have fallen short of The Magpies’ £75 million valuation for their star.
