The Lions of Teranga are poised to make history as they aim to bring Africa its first World Cup title. Senegal is set to kick off its tournament campaign against France in Group I on June 16, led by coach Pape Thiaw.
As the anticipation builds for this opening match, player Iliman Ndiaye has shared the team’s aspirations. In a recent interview with France Football, he expressed confidence in Senegal’s capability to compete against the world’s footballing elite.
“Senegal is eagerly awaiting the World Cup, as we have a clear objective: to become world champions,” Ndiaye stated. He noted that African football is evolving, citing Morocco’s notable semi-final run in the 2022 World Cup as a significant achievement for the continent.
“We felt it when we faced big nations like England; we look anyone straight in the eye. We really want the World Cup in Africa,” he added, emphasizing the team’s determination and belief in their potential.
