The Ivorian Football Federation has issued an official statement addressing concerns regarding a shooting incident that occurred on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at ChristianaCare Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware. Reports indicate that the shooting involved a man wanted by local police, who opened fire on two individuals near the hotel where the Ivory Coast national team is currently staying during the World Cup.

The Federation sought to clarify that the national team, known as the Elephants, has not been impacted by the incident. In their communication, they reassured fans, media, and the public about the safety of the team.

“The Ivorian Football Federation wishes to reassure all supporters of the Elephants, the media and the general public following reports concerning an incident that took place on the afternoon of Tuesday 16 June 2026 at ChristianaCare’s Wilmington Hospital in the State of Delaware. The Ivorian Football Federation wishes to make it clear that the national team has not been affected in any way by this incident. It further confirms that the national team, its coaching staff, and the entire delegation are staying in a secure environment and are continuing their activities as normal,” the statement read.
