FootemXtra.com – Juventus could potentially save up to €35 million if their former coach, Thiago Motta, takes over as coach at Bayer Leverkusen.

Reports from Italy indicate that Motta is now on the shortlist for the Bundesliga club after they decided to part ways with former Manchester United coach Erik Ten Hag.

A report from TuttoMercatoWeb confirms that Motta’s contract with Juventus actually runs until 2027. This means that if he accepts an offer from Leverkusen, the financial obligations from his contract in Turin will no longer need to be covered by Bianconeri.

This situation presents a significant financial advantage for the club, as Motta still receives his full salary despite no longer managing the team after his dismissal.

However, Tuttosport adds that Motta is not entirely sure about returning to coaching soon, as he is reportedly inclined to take a break.

He also has reservations about accepting the Leverkusen project, which is seen as less stable following the departure of Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid and the exit of key players such as Florian Wirtz, Granit Xhaka, and Jeremy Frimpong.

Motta’s Financial Burden on Juventus

Thiago Motta has not been involved with Juventus since he was dismissed less than a year after being appointed. Poor results led management to end the partnership prematurely.

Since that change, Juventus’s performance has reportedly improved under new coach Igor Tudor, making Motta’s absence not seen as a technical loss.

Nonetheless, his contract still binds Juventus until 2027 at a value of around €9 million per season. As long as he does not secure a new job, that salary burden remains payable.

This places Juventus in a difficult situation, spending significant funds on someone who is no longer contributing directly to the team.

Clearly, this adds urgency for Juventus to see Motta return to coaching. If he takes the offer from Leverkusen, the financial burden for the Turin club could quickly end.

Motta’s Future Remains Uncertain

Speculation regarding Motta’s future is ongoing. Some reports suggest he is not in a hurry to return and prefers to stay in shape while waiting for the right opportunity.

However, the longer he stays away from coaching, the more his reputation in football could decline, especially given the increasing competition among elite managers.

For Juventus, the best scenario is to see Motta back in action soon, as it would mean a significant salary burden could be lifted. As of now, management is still awaiting developments regarding Bayer Leverkusen’s interest in hiring the 42-year-old coach.
