Achraf Hakimi has etched his name into African football history by becoming the most-capped African player in FIFA World Cup history during Morocco’s 2026 Group C match against Scotland.

The Paris Saint-Germain defender achieved this milestone with his 12th World Cup appearance, elevating him to the top of the continent’s all-time rankings.

Entering the 2026 tournament with 10 appearances, Hakimi increased his count after featuring in Morocco’s 1–1 draw against Brazil earlier in the group stage. His latest match against Scotland marks his overall 12th appearance in the tournament.

At 27 years old, Hakimi now stands alone in the record books, surpassing Cameroon’s François Omam-Biyik and Ghana’s Asamoah Gyan, who previously shared the record with 11 appearances each.
