The Gunners finally clinched the title under Mikel Arteta after Manchester City’s draw at Bournemouth made it mathematically impossible for them to catch up.
This result marked a career first for Guardiola, highlighting the rarity of his usual dominance in football.

Arsenal’s Premier League Title Leaves Guardiola with a Rare Career Setback
Prime Video Sport highlighted the significance of Arsenal’s victory by noting the unusual impact it had on Pep Guardiola’s record.
The post stated: “The first time in Pep Guardiola’s career that he has gone back-to-back seasons without winning a league title.”
This statement stands out, as Guardiola has spent nearly two decades making league wins seem routine. Whether with Barcelona, Bayern Munich, or Manchester City, he typically responded to a missed title by swiftly reclaiming dominance.
Arsenal, however, disrupted that trend. Following Liverpool’s win in the 2024-25 season, Arteta’s squad secured the 2025-26 title, leaving City in second place with one match remaining.
City’s 1-1 draw at Bournemouth confirmed Arsenal’s title, putting the Gunners four points ahead and eliminating any chance of Guardiola preventing back-to-back league misses.
Guardiola Faces Rare Back-to-Back Title Misses
Guardiola’s entire league record makes Arsenal’s title even more remarkable; he had never experienced consecutive misses in his senior coaching career.
At Barcelona, he won La Liga in 2008-09, 2009-10, and 2010-11 before finishing second in 2011-12. After taking a sabbatical, he joined Bayern Munich, winning the Bundesliga in each of his three seasons from 2013-14 to 2015-16.
At Manchester City, he initially faced his first English setback by finishing third in 2016-17, but rebounded with a record 100-point title season in 2017-18, adding another league win in 2018-19.
Even after Liverpool dethroned City for the 2019-20 title, Guardiola responded with four consecutive Premier League victories from 2020-21 through 2023-24.
Thus, Arsenal’s success is significant beyond North London, as they not only won the league but also pushed Guardiola into unfamiliar territory after years of consistent recovery.
Guardiola congratulated Arsenal and Arteta following the title confirmation, but this development will likely resonate as a poignant moment in his illustrious career. For the first time, the league title eluded him for two straight seasons.
