Arsenal Targets West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes Amid Manchester United Interest

Arsenal are continuing to assess midfield targets ahead of the summer transfer window, with another player previously linked to Manchester United now emerging on their shortlist.

Both clubs are expected to strengthen in midfield this summer.

Manchester United are preparing for life after Casemiro, who recently confirmed he will leave the club at the end of the season.

Manuel Ugarte has also been linked with a potential exit after an inconsistent campaign.

As a result, several midfielders have been linked with Old Trafford in recent months.

According to The Times, Arsenal are now interested in West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes.

The Portuguese midfielder has impressed despite West Ham struggling for consistency this season.

Fernandes has scored four goals in 35 appearances since joining from Southampton last summer.

He has also recently broken into the senior Portugal national team.

Manchester United have previously monitored the midfielder as part of their wider rebuild plans.

The Reds have also been linked with Joao Gomes, Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba, Ederson, and Noah Sadiki ahead of the summer window.

Manchester United recently entered the race for AC Milan defender Strahinja Pavlovic despite Ayden Heaven’s impressive breakthrough season, with the teenager already winning a Manchester United Player of the Month award.

United also monitored defender Abubacarr Sedi Kinteh before reports emerged that the youngster had reached a verbal agreement with Koln.

Fernandes is viewed as a technically strong midfielder who can operate in multiple roles across the middle of the pitch.

Mateus Fernandes is regarded as one of the more promising young midfielders in the Premier League.

With Arsenal and Manchester United both monitoring the market closely ahead of a busy summer, it would not be a surprise if interest in the Portuguese international continues to grow over the coming months.
