Aston Villa are seeking to secure the services of Real Sociedad goalkeeper Álex Remiro this summer. According to Saturday’s edition of Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Newcastle United have also entered the fray for the player. The report highlights that Remiro’s release clause has significantly dropped from €50 million to €12 million, a price both Premier League clubs can readily manage.
Aston Villa eye Real Sociedad’s Remiro as contract clause opens a summer door
This interest from Villa dates back to last summer when a potential deal fell through despite clear intentions from manager Unai Emery. With the 31-year-old’s situation becoming more complex, Aston Villa, along with Eddie Howe’s Newcastle, are reportedly eager to finalize a transfer. Meanwhile, Barcelona has held multiple discussions with Remiro’s agent regarding a move this summer or possibly a free transfer in 2027, when his current contract expires.
Inter Milan have also reached out to the player. Recognizing the competition, Real Sociedad has encouraged Remiro to extend his stay, but the goalkeeper is seeking time, particularly to see if he will be selected by Luis de la Fuente for Spain’s 2026 World Cup squad. This season, Remiro has recorded 33 league appearances, made 82 saves, and kept only three clean sheets in what has been a challenging period for his team.
Should Aston Villa genuinely prioritize a goalkeeper who conceded 52 goals this season?
