Austin FC Parts Ways with Manager Nico Estévez and Sporting Director Rodolfo Borrell

Austin FC announced today on X that it will be moving forward without both manager Nico Estévez and sporting director Rodolfo Borrell.

Estévez’s dismissal marks the second managerial change in Major League Soccer within two days, following the Columbus Crew’s decision to remove Henrik Rydström on Sunday. This news comes on the heels of Austin’s 2-1 loss to Sporting Kansas City, a match that saw them fall to the bottom of the Western Conference.

Joining Austin FC before the 2025 season, Estévez concluded his tenure with a record of 16 wins, 13 draws, and 19 losses. Despite the recent setbacks, he guided the team to the U.S. Open Cup final last season, alongside a playoff appearance.

In an official statement, the club confirmed that an interim manager has been appointed. “Davy Arnaud has been appointed Interim Head Coach ahead of the Club’s next match against St. Louis CITY SC on May 23,” stated a club representative.

Austin FC’s upcoming match against St. Louis CITY SC will be their last before the international break. The game is scheduled for 2:45 p.m. Eastern Standard Time at Energizer Park in St. Louis.
