Barcelona clinched their 29th La Liga title and second straight championship with a 2-0 win over Real Madrid.

Goals from Marcus Rashford and Ferran Torres secured the trophy for Hansi Flick’s side with three games to spare.

The victory leaves a struggling Real Madrid 14 points behind at the end of a trophy-less season.
Watched by its grieving coach, Barcelona claimed its second consecutive Spanish league title and 29th overall with a convincing 2-0 victory over Real Madrid at Camp Nou on Sunday, adding to its rival’s troubled season.
Goals from Marcus Rashford in the ninth minute and Ferran Torres in the 18th sealed the win for Barcelona, giving them an unassailable 14-point lead over their fierce rivals with three rounds left in La Liga.
Barcelona coach Hansi Flick was in the dugout during Sunday’s clasico following the passing of his father, which the club announced just hours before the match. Players from both teams donned black armbands, and a moment of silence was observed before kickoff.
A draw would have sufficed for the Catalan club to secure its third league title in four seasons.
Real Madrid, the league’s most successful club with 36 titles, ends another season without a major trophy. Sunday’s defeat marks an embarrassing week for Madrid, following player altercations in training that led to fines for Federico Valverde and Aurélien Tchouaméni of €500,000 ($589,000) each.
Rashford initiated the scoring with a superb free kick, curling the ball over the wall into the top corner. Torres extended the lead from within the area after a flick from Dani Olmo.
Hansi Flick Stays With His Team Despite Loss of Father
Flick’s father reportedly passed away overnight. The coach celebrated Barcelona’s goals and appeared emotional after the final whistle.
“I will never forget this day. It was a tough day for me. It starts with this (news that) my father passed away, but here, my team is fantastic,” Flick said. “I really love it, this is like a family, and they gave everything today, and I’m really proud. It’s amazing, in this stadium, and also in the clasico against Real Madrid, to win La Liga.”
A brief skirmish occurred between players in the 51st minute after Olmo confronted a Madrid player, resulting in a yellow card for Olmo.
Madrid’s Jude Bellingham had a goal disallowed for offside in the 63rd minute.
Brazil forward Raphinha replaced Rashford in the 64th minute, marking his return from a lengthy injury absence.
Barcelona has been competing in the final league games without the injured Lamine Yamal, its youngest star. Yamal was present on the field lifting the trophy with his teammates.
Real Madrid Missed Kylian Mbappe
Madrid was without the injured Kylian Mbappé, the league’s top scorer with 24 goals. The French forward failed to recover from a left hamstring injury sustained in late April.
Mbappé recently addressed criticism regarding his commitment, insisting he is dedicated to both the club and his recovery. Some Madrid fans expressed concern that he was prioritizing preparation for the upcoming World Cup. He shared a supportive post during Sunday’s match, coupled with a white heart emoji.
Madrid was also missing Valverde due to a head injury sustained during a training altercation with Tchouaméni. In addition, Álvaro Carreras confirmed he was involved in a “minor” incident with a teammate, while Spanish media reported a scuffle between him and fellow defender Antonio Rüdiger.
Alvaro Arbeloa Faces Criticism
The defeat in Sunday’s clasico is likely to intensify criticism of coach Álvaro Arbeloa, who was promoted from Madrid’s reserve team following the dismissal of Xabi Alonso in January. Speculation about a possible return of José Mourinho to the club may also resurface.
“There’s not a lot we can say,” Arbeloa noted. “We understand how frustrated and dissatisfied the fans must be. The only thing we can do is work and look to the future, learning from everything we have done wrong this year. Real Madrid always bounces back; we have stumbled many times, but we have also risen.”
Notable figures such as singer-songwriter Olivia Rodrigo and Nathy Peluso were among the celebrities in attendance. Rodrigo, an American multi-Grammy winner, had her logo featured on the team’s jersey as part of the club’s partnership with Spotify.
This season, Barcelona has also secured the Spanish Super Cup and has achieved 11 consecutive wins in the league.
