José Mourinho’s departure from Benfica is increasingly viewed as inevitable, as the club explores options for his successor. Reports indicate that the Portuguese giants are considering bringing in former Barcelona manager Xavi Hernández as their new head coach.

Details: According to Diario AS, which cites Record, Benfica’s management is seriously assessing the candidacy of the 46-year-old Spaniard following Mourinho’s likely exit. Alongside Xavi, former Manchester United manager Rúben Amorim is also reportedly in contention for the role. However, Amorim’s previous tenure at Sporting might deter him from joining their rivals at Benfica.

Mourinho’s exit is fueled by Real Madrid‘s interest in securing his services, intensifying speculation about his future. His time at Benfica has come under scrutiny, positioning the club for a change in leadership.

Xavi’s most recent role was as head coach of Barcelona, where he managed the team from 2021 to 2024. During his tenure, he oversaw 143 matches, achieving 91 wins, 23 draws, and 29 losses.
