A historic moment.
In their opening Group Stage match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Cape Verde faced Spain, during which a significant milestone was achieved by one of the African side’s players.
Details: Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha became the oldest player ever to make his FIFA World Cup debut while also keeping a clean sheet, achieving this feat at the age of 40. Vozinha made seven saves during the match and was named Player of the Match.
In addition to Vozinha’s achievement, Cape Verde made history by becoming the first African nation in 24 years to avoid defeat in its inaugural FIFA World Cup match.
Meanwhile, Spain’s forward also made history by matching an undesirable record that had remained unbroken since 1966.
