FC Dallas Seeks Long-Awaited Victory Against New York Red Bulls

FC Dallas has struggled in its last 11 encounters with the New York Red Bulls, failing to secure a win in this lengthy streak that dates back nearly two decades.

The Red Bulls, known for their strong defensive record in these matchups, aim to tighten their defense this Saturday night in Harrison, N.J., especially following their recent home game in MLS.

Since May 24, 2006, New York remains undefeated at home against Dallas with a record of 9-0-2. The first ten matches were regular-season games in MLS, and last year, New York achieved a penalty kick victory in the U.S. Open Competition on May 21.

Among those games, six resulted in shutouts, and New York would welcome another blank scoreline after allowing a pair of two-goal leads to slip away in a 4-4 draw against D.C. United two weeks ago. The team, currently with a record of 3-4-3 and 12 points, followed up this disappointing defensive performance with a 2-0 loss at Cincinnati. In that match, they conceded two goals in the final 10 minutes of the first half, putting their record at 1-4-3 after winning their initial two games.

Additionally, New York aims to shore up its defense after allowing three goals off corner kicks in a 3-1 defeat to New York City FC in a U.S. Open Cup match on Wednesday.

“It’s something that we have to continue to work on,” said New York coach Michael Bradley. “Obviously, the makeup of our team from a physical profile standpoint means that it’s an area where on some nights we’re going to be really challenged.”

While looking for their first road victory over the Red Bulls in 20 years, Dallas (3-3-4, 13 points) is also trying to end a four-match winless streak. After scoring four goals in back-to-back victories over Houston and D.C. United, Dallas has only found the net four times while going 0-2-2 since then.

Last Saturday, Dallas suffered a 2-1 loss at Seattle, marking the fifth instance this season that they have been held to one goal or fewer. Although Nolan Norris managed to score, it was insufficient as Dallas trailed by two goals within the first 30 minutes of play.

“Obviously disappointed about the result, but I thought we played pretty well, and I think we’re going to regret seeing the couple moments that led to their goals,” stated Dallas coach Eric Quill. “Those moments are fixable.”

Dallas forward Petar Musa is tied for the league lead with nine goals, while teenager Julian Hall leads New York with six goals.
