Roberto De Zerbi Discusses James Maddison and Dominic Solanke’s Progress.

Roberto De Zerbi provided an enthusiastic update on James Maddison’s recovery, praising the Tottenham playmaker while acknowledging the challenges he may face upon returning from injury in the Premier League‘s intense environment.

Maddison has been out of action since suffering a ruptured ACL during pre-season under Thomas Frank, missing the entire campaign, which has added to the club’s difficulties this season. However, the anticipation surrounding his return has sparked hope, and De Zerbi’s remarks indicate that he has been closely observing Maddison’s training, suggesting an important role for the player once he is fully fit.

De Zerbi stated (h/t Football London):

“I’m thinking about James Maddison because I’m watching a top, top player. Maybe he’s not ready yet to play, but as a physical condition, not for the rhythm, for the intensity of the game. We are playing in the Premier League, the most difficult league in terms of intensity and rhythm. But as a player, it’s great, as a coach, watching one player like this.”

De Zerbi elaborated, revealing his insights into how he views players like Maddison. He identified the special significance of number 10 players, saying, “Especially for me, because I was number 10. And I’m sensitive in number 10 players like Xavi Simons, Maddison, Kulusevski, and Kudus. We have a lot of number 10s, but I want to see.”

De Zerbi’s personal connection as a former number ten enhances his appreciation for creatives like Maddison, Simons, Kulusevski, and Kudus. The prospect of De Zerbi managing these talents in a fully fit Tottenham side presents an exciting vision for fans as the team navigates its upcoming challenges in the Premier League or potentially the Championship.
