Roberto De Zerbi Aims for Permanent Joao Palhinha Transfer to Strengthen Tottenham

Recent discussions surrounding Tottenham’s intentions to secure Joao Palhinha on a permanent transfer have gained traction. Head coach Roberto De Zerbi addressed this topic in a recent press conference, indicating a strong desire for the club to sign the Portuguese midfielder when the summer transfer window opens.

As Tottenham prepares for their upcoming Game Week 36 match against Leeds, De Zerbi emphasized that Palhinha exemplifies the type of player and individual he wishes to integrate into his squad.

De Zerbi Expresses Confidence in Palhinha Transfer

During the pre-game press conference, a journalist posed a direct question regarding Palhinha, and the 56-year-old coach openly shared his thoughts.

RDZ stated (via. The Athletic):

“100%. We have to start with this type of person. More than players, we need reliable people and players and Palhinha is one of the best, as a player for sure but as a guy. I want to see players have the same personality, attitude and spirit and we’re lucky to have him.”

Palhinha joined Tottenham on a season-long loan from Bayern Munich following requests from the Lilywhites supporters for a notable midfielder. Under Thomas Frank’s guidance, he has emerged as a vital player for the team, especially during the latter half of the ongoing season.

The former Fulham star scored the decisive goal against Wolves and delivered an impressive performance in the Lilywhites’ 2-1 victory over Aston Villa, highlighting his significance at the base of the midfield. Palhinha has also achieved 100 Premier League tackles for the season, showcasing his hard work in the center of the park.

Tottenham Working to Negotiate Lower Transfer Fee

Reports earlier this month suggested that Tottenham is negotiating with Bayern Munich to reduce the £25m buy option outlined in the loan agreement with the German club.

While Palhinha may not be the flashiest midfielder, he represents the type of player that can provide stability during a rebuilding phase, which Tottenham is expected to undergo this summer.

He would deliver the consistency that RDZ needs week in and week out.

If Tottenham wishes to ensure their position in the Premier League, a permanent deal for Palhinha appears inevitable based on De Zerbi’s comments.
