Manchester United Considers Luis Enrique Before Confirming Michael Carrick as Manager

Some people at Manchester United had hoped to appoint Luis Enrique as their next permanent manager before ultimately deciding on Michael Carrick.

While the official announcement is pending, the Red Devils have nearly finalized their confirmation of Carrick for the upcoming season.

The former England midfielder has performed effectively since taking over from Ruben Amorim in January. His selection as interim coach has proven to be beneficial, guiding the team back to the Champions League and ensuring a Top 3 finish.

However, Carrick wasn’t everyone’s first choice for the position.

Man United Dreamed About Signing Luis Enrique

As mentioned in recent reports, Carrick’s prospects improved due to a lack of top-tier names available in the market, including Luis Enrique, who has been connected to the MUFC role.

Nonetheless, sources indicate that the Spanish coach is nearing an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain to extend his contract past 2027.

The former Real Madrid and Barcelona player has achieved outstanding results since his arrival in the French capital in 2023. He led PSG to their first Champions League trophy last season and aims to repeat this success in the upcoming final against Arsenal next week.

According to Fabrizio Romano, ‘important’ figures at Manchester United considered Enrique their ‘secret dream’. The Italian journalist shared this information in a recent video on his official YouTube channel.

Between January and February, these MUFC officials attempted to initiate discussions to bring the Spaniard to Carrington but abandoned the effort upon realizing that the 56-year-old is likely to remain with PSG.
