Promotion is what every football fan dreams about. The elation, joy, and excitement that accompany these moments create enduring memories for fans.

This sentiment extends to significant trophy victories, like the Champions League, which still resonate with former players Gary Neville and David Beckham.

During their illustrious careers at Manchester United, both players secured numerous trophies, including the Premier League and Champions League titles.

Although both Neville and Beckham have officially retired, the immediate thrill of winning trophies may be behind them. However, their involvement in guiding clubs still holds a similar significance.

Currently, both Neville and Beckham play a role in Salford City, which is competing in League Two, the fourth tier of English football, below the Premier League, Championship, and League One.

As the final day approached, Salford was in the midst of a pursuit for automatic promotion, and a victory would have significantly enhanced their chances of moving up to League One.

Unfortunately for them, a 0-0 draw against Crawley Town meant that they missed the third automatic promotion spot, taken by Cambridge United.

Cambridge wrapped up the season with 82 points, just one point ahead of Salford’s 81, and their draw against Crewe Alexandra guaranteed their place in the English third tier for the upcoming season.

Salford City now faces the uncertainty of the play-offs, where they will compete with Notts County, Chesterfield, and Grimsby Town for a chance to move up to League One.

The Ammies will play Grimsby away on Sunday, May 10, followed by a home match against the Mariners on Friday, May 15.

If Salford triumphs in their two-legged encounter, they would then compete against either Notts County or Chesterfield, who are set to face off in the other semi-final at Wembley Stadium.

A win at Wembley would not only bring prestige but also significant financial benefits, aiding the club’s push for financial stability after reports indicated that some members of the Class of 92 faced a £31 million loss from their investments in the club.

For Neville and Beckham, even with the disappointment from the last day of the season, there remains a glimmer of hope for a promotion to League One next season.
