Ghana has officially announced the appointment of Carlos Queiroz as the new manager of their national football team, according to the Ghana Football Association’s website.
The Black Stars aim to revamp their strategy ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The federation has selected an experienced coach to guide this effort.
Queiroz will take the helm of the senior national team following his exit from Oman last month.
The Portuguese coach is recognized among Manchester United fans for his role as an assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson, contributing significantly during a peak period for the club.
The Ghana FA has stated he will manage the team during the World Cup in North America.
Ghana will compete against Panama, England, and Croatia in the group stage.
His extensive international coaching experience is a key reason for his selection, having previously led several nations in World Cup competitions.
Queiroz notably guided South Africa to the 2002 World Cup.
He also took Portugal to the knockout rounds in 2010 and managed Iran during the 2014 and 2018 World Cups.
His career has spanned across Egypt, Japan, Qatar, and most recently Oman, showcasing his global coaching experience.
From Manchester United’s viewpoint, his appointment highlights the club’s longstanding influence in international football.
During his time at Old Trafford, Queiroz played a crucial role in tactical planning and team development, working closely with Ferguson during a successful era that saw multiple Premier League titles.
In other news, Ghana was linked with Manchester United’s Ayden Heaven for a possible switch in international allegiance, but the defender chose to represent England instead.
Recently, Heaven trained with England’s first team and scored for the Under-20 side.
Queiroz is expected to start his new role immediately, with preparations already in progress for the upcoming tournament.
For Ghana, there is optimism that his expertise and structured approach can bring stability.
