Harry Maguire Excluded from England’s 2026 World Cup Squad
Harry Maguire has experienced a significant resurgence over the past few seasons at Manchester United, returning to form and proving essential for The Red Devils. Last season, he delivered impressive performances under Ruben Amorim, notably scoring crucial winning goals in the Europa League on multiple occasions.
This season has been similarly noteworthy, as he leads the back line in the absence of Matthijs de Ligt. Recently, he secured a contract extension to stay at Old Trafford for another year.
Thomas Tuchel has also recognized his return to form, selecting him for the England national team in recent friendlies against Uruguay and Japan. However, talkSPORT has reported that Harry Maguire will not be included in Tuchel’s 23-man squad for the upcoming 2026 World Cup in North America.
In response to the news, Maguire took to X, stating: “I was confident I could have played a major part this summer for my country after the season I’ve had. I’ve been left shocked and gutted by the decision.” He continued, “I’ve loved nothing more than putting that shirt on and representing my country over the years. I wish the players all the best this summer.”
While Maguire’s exclusion is now confirmed, the 23 players who will represent The Three Lions are set to be announced tomorrow, with his United teammate Kobbie Mainoo hoping to secure a spot on the squad.
