In a recent statement, Abia Warriors head coach Imama Amapakabo expressed optimism regarding his team’s recent relocation to the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba. He referred to the move as a significant positive development, labeling it a “blessing in disguise” for their 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
The team’s performances have shown marked improvement since the change, with more confident displays on the pitch attributed to better playing conditions. Following their hard-fought 2-1 victory against title contenders Ikorodu City, Abia Warriors advanced to fourth place in the NPFL standings with 55 points, bolstering their ambitions for a strong conclusion to the campaign.
After the match, Amapakabo, a former Nigeria junior international goalkeeper and 2016 NPFL title-winning coach with Rangers International, spoke about the critical role of a quality pitch in facilitating his team’s playing style. He highlighted how the initial fear and uncertainty experienced at their previous home in Umuahia have given way to a more stable and enjoyable environment in Aba.
“Yes, I think so. I’ve always wanted a lush pitch for my players to express themselves the way I want them to play,” said Amapakabo. “At Umuahia initially, there was so much fear and uncertainty. But that has settled now. We’ve enjoyed our stay here and also gained support from Enyimba supporters.
“Whether you like it or not, everybody supports good football. You may not like the team, but once they play well, you are bound to support them.”
