Jose Mourinho Leads Benfica to Unbeaten Season Amid Future Speculation

Jose Mourinho continues to reach new career highs each season as his long and successful managerial career takes shape.

The 63-year-old, who won the Europa League and EFL Cup while with Manchester United, experienced varying levels of success at Old Trafford but ultimately did not meet the expectations of some supporters.

Benfica has been Mourinho’s home for the past season, where he aims to build more success with another club following his stint at Fenerbahçe last season.

The manager’s future has been largely questioned, however, with him set for talks with Real Madrid surrounding a potential return to Spain, which would see him leave Portugal once again.

Amid these rumors, Jose Mourinho has emerged as an invincible leader, guiding Benfica to an unbeaten season following their 3-1 victory over Estoril.

This win means that Benfica has recorded 23 victories, 11 draws, and no losses. While this achievement is notable, it is not the first time Benfica has gone unbeaten in a season, having done so during the 1977-78 season as well.

However, like that previous season, Benfica was unable to secure the league title despite their impressive record.

Ultimately, the club finished third in the Liga Portugal, with Sporting CP taking second place and Porto winning the league title by eight points ahead of Benfica.

Even with this disappointment, the feat of finishing an entire league campaign unbeaten is significant. This marks the first time Mourinho has achieved this in his managerial career and highlights how he continues to reach new heights despite his already substantial success.

With links to Real Madrid still persistent, attention may now turn to whether Mourinho decides to leave Benfica for a return to Real Madrid. Should he make the move, it would mark the third different club for him in just three seasons.
