Glody Lilepo has made a significant impact at Kaizer Chiefs, scoring five goals and contributing several assists as the team finished in third place in the Betway Premiership. His performances have raised expectations for a potential return to the national team.
However, Lilepo’s hopes of being included in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) squad for the upcoming World Cup were dashed today when coach Sebastien Desabre announced his final roster for the tournament in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
The midfielder’s absence from the squad is particularly disappointing given his stellar season with the Chiefs. Despite his impressive form, Lilepo has faced challenges with the DRC football federation, contributing to his exclusion from the national team for the World Cup and other competitions such as the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).
Earlier this season, Lilepo reportedly reached out to football officials in the DRC in hopes of being reconsidered for national duty. Unfortunately, these efforts have not resulted in a place on the World Cup squad, prompting him to focus solely on excelling with Kaizer Chiefs.
