On May 17, the final matchday of the 2025/2026 French Ligue 1 season unfolded, determining the participants for European competitions as well as the teams facing relegation from the top division. Paris Saint-Germain had already clinched the league title earlier in the week.

The distribution of European spots will hinge on the outcome of the Coupe de France final, scheduled for May 22, featuring Lens and Nice. Two potential scenarios have emerged based on the final match results.

At the moment, there are two possible scenarios:

If Lens win the Coupe de France:

  • Champions LeaguePSG (champions, league stage), Lens (second place, league stage), Lille (third place, league stage), and Lyon (fourth place, qualification)
  • Europa LeagueMarseille (fifth place, league stage), Rennes (sixth place, league stage)
  • Conference LeagueMonaco (seventh place, league stage)

If Nice win the Coupe de France:

  • Champions LeaguePSG (champions, league stage), Lens (second place, league stage), Lille (third place, league stage), and Lyon (fourth place, qualification)
  • Europa LeagueMarseille (fifth place, league stage), Nice (cup winners, league stage)
  • Conference LeagueRennes (sixth place, league stage)

Nantes and Metz have been automatically relegated from Ligue 1, while Nice will seek to retain their top-flight status in the playoff against Saint-Étienne. Meanwhile, Troyes and Le Mans have secured promotion from Ligue 2.
