Liverpool Eyes Feyenoord Coach Assistant Etienne Reijnen for Anfield Role

With the Premier League becoming increasingly competitive both on and off the pitch, coaching structures are now just as important as squad depth when it comes to long-term success.

That makes the latest developments involving Liverpool particularly interesting, especially given the indirect links to United’s past.

According to Valentijn Driessen, as relayed by 1908 NL, Liverpool boss Arne Slot is pushing to bring Etienne Reijnen to Anfield, with the move expected to progress quickly once the Dutch coach completes his required coaching diploma.

Etienne Reijnen is currently working as an assistant under Robin van Persie at Feyenoord, a name that will not be unfamiliar to Manchester United supporters given Van Persie’s iconic spell at Old Trafford.

The former United striker played a crucial role in delivering the club’s last Premier League title in 2012–13, finishing as the league’s top scorer and cementing his legacy before later moving into coaching.

Reijnen’s potential departure could trigger a reshuffle at Feyenoord, with reports suggesting that Giovanni van Bronckhorst could be open to returning to the club as part of a new-look technical setup.

Despite uncertainty earlier in the year, Robin van Persie has managed to stabilize their season, going on a six-game unbeaten run across all competitions after a difficult period that had seen pressure build on the coaching staff.

They currently sit second in the Eredivisie and remain on course to secure Champions League football, with just three games left to play in the campaign.

The turnaround has been particularly notable given how close the situation came to boiling over earlier in the year, with supporters reportedly calling for changes before results began to improve.

This resurgence has not only strengthened their position domestically but also made their coaching staff more attractive to clubs across Europe, which explains Liverpool’s growing interest in Reijnen.

At the same time, internal changes continue to shape the club’s future, with general manager Dennis te Kloese set to leave at the end of the season after a mutual agreement was reached.

That departure could open the door for further restructuring behind the scenes, especially if key members of the technical staff also move on in the coming months.

From a Manchester United perspective, developments like these highlight how interconnected the modern game has become.

It also underlines the importance of stability within a coaching setup, something United themselves have been working to build under their current leadership as they aim to compete consistently at the highest level.
