Young Tunisian footballer Louey Ben Farhat has publicly addressed his decision to prioritize recovery over participating in an upcoming tournament. The Karlsruher striker’s choice has drawn criticism from the Eagles of Carthage manager, Sabri Lamouchi, who expressed disappointment over the player’s refusal of the national call-up.
In his statement, Ben Farhat acknowledged the significance of representing Tunisia but clarified that his decision should not be seen as a lack of commitment to the national team. “This decision was very difficult for me to make. I have enormous respect for the national team, the coaching staff and everyone who works for Tunisian football. My decision in no way reflects a lack of respect towards them,” he stated.
The 22-year-old explained that his refusal is primarily rooted in his recent injury history. Ben Farhat has been recovering from a broken foot that sidelined him for four months this season, leading him to prioritize his fitness before resuming competitive play. “Taking part in a World Cup, with all the physical demands and preparation that entails, would have been a huge burden,” he added, emphasizing the importance of focusing on his recovery for his future well-being.
