Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has emphasized that reaching the Caf Champions League final is a collective achievement rather than an individual one. Cardoso’s statement follows his team’s successful campaign, which culminated in a second consecutive final appearance after they defeated their semi-final opponents with a 2-0 aggregate score. The triumph was highlighted by Colombian striker Brayan Leone, who scored both goals in the two-legged semi-final.
In addressing speculation about his future, Cardoso expressed unwavering confidence in his position at the club. He stated, “Those kinds of people don’t make my life; I live from the energy that comes from those who are important.” He reiterated that key figures at the club were supportive and optimistic about his tenure, contrary to external doubts voiced by some journalists.
Cardoso reflected on the importance of teamwork, saying, “I look at this moment as a club and players’ achievement; it’s their job and a high level of commitment, not mine. I just try to facilitate and not complicate things.” As he approaches the age of 54, the coach emphasizes the need to enjoy life while balancing professional responsibilities.
“One day, this life will end for everybody. I don’t depend on my day-to-day work. I depend on what I’ve done for many years, and my life is very stable,” he concluded, underscoring his focus on maintaining peace and contentment in both his personal and professional life.
