Newcastle United Faces Growing Pressure for Coaching Change Amid Losing Streak

Currently, Newcastle United are on a five-game losing streak in the Premier League. The fans’ confidence in Eddie Howe’s ability to lead the team is eroding rapidly – as such, calls for him to be sacked are growing ever louder.

Today, we’ve looked at five head coaches who could replace Howe as Newcastle boss, according to betting odds from BetVictor. As always, odds are subject to change.

Marco Silva

Marco Silva has done a remarkable job since joining Fulham. Once a yo-yo club, the Cottagers are now an established Premier League outfit who can give anyone a tough game.

Not only have Fulham enjoyed a good season under Silva’s stewardship, they’re also very easy on the eye – such free-flowing football will be greatly appreciated by the St. James’ Park faithful.

He’s currently rated at 10/1 to take on the Newcastle job. Fulham won’t be so keen to let him go, but if a club of the Toon’s size comes knocking, their hands will probably be tied.

Roberto Mancini

Here’s a blast from the past – Roberto Mancini hasn’t managed in the Premier League for well over a decade, but he remains one of the favourites to usurp Howe in the Newcastle helm.

Currently the head coach of Al-Sadd in Qatar, Mancini has been given odds of 8/1 to be the next Newcastle manager.

One of few Premier League managers to have won the title, Mancini’s most recent success came during his time as Italy manager, when he coached his country to victory in Euro 2020.

Oliver Glasner

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner is leaving Selhurst Park at the end of the season. As such, if the Toon wish to bring him on board, there should be minimal complications – at least, in theory.

BetVictor think he is in with a good chance of being the next Newcastle manager – they’ve given him odds of 6/1 to take on Howe’s mantle.

He isn’t a traditional Newcastle coach, preferring to play for the counter rather than keeping possession, but his track record at Palace speaks for itself.

Andoni Iraola

Andoni Iraola might be one of the most underrated head coaches in the world right now. He has done an outstanding job as Bournemouth manager – the Cherries haven’t lost in the Premier League since the beginning of January, when they were narrowly edged out by league leaders Arsenal.

Nevertheless, Iraola has announced his intentions to leave Bournemouth at the end of the season. It would be a big step up in terms of scale, but Newcastle could do far worse than him.

Iraola’s penchant for playing attractive football will surely win over the fans in double quick time – BetVictor have him at 2/1 to be the next Newcastle manager.

Jose Mourinho

This came as a surprise to us – nevertheless, legendary head coach Jose Mourinho is the joint-favourite to take on the Newcastle job with odds of 2/1.

Mourinho needs no introduction. One of the best managers of all time, his iconic status will live forever – but is he necessarily a good fit for the Newcastle job? He has plenty of experience with managing big clubs, but his contemporary success has been relatively minimal.

An outspoken personality, Mourinho certainly does not suffer fools. The team will need to fall in line, or chaos will inevitably ensue.
