Tottenham Eyes Manchester City‘s Savinho as Transfer Target Once Again
Tottenham Hotspur is considering a renewed attempt to sign a player from Premier League rivals they previously pursued last summer.
After breaking their trophy drought and clinching the Europa League title last year, Tottenham had high hopes for the current season and aimed to build on that success. A crucial part of that plan involved maximizing their efforts during last summer’s transfer window.
The Lilywhites began positively, securing Mohammed Kudus from London rivals West Ham. Additionally, they were interested in Manchester City winger Savinho, making several attempts to bring him to N17.
However, Tottenham’s efforts were thwarted when Manchester City intervened, blocking Savinho’s transfer. The young winger had expressed his desire to move to White Hart Lane after agreeing on personal terms with Spurs but ultimately signed a contract extension with City due to Pep Guardiola’s last-minute decision.
Manchester City Open to Offers for Savinho Amid Tottenham Interest
Savinho has had a frustrating season at the Etihad Stadium, spending much of the time injured or sidelined. Following the arrival of Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth in the January transfer window, Savinho is no longer considered a key player in Manchester City’s first team.
The 22-year-old has seen his performance levels dip, and his opportunities in the squad have decreased, which led to his exclusion from Brazil’s World Cup roster. Reports indicate that City is now open to offers for the winger.
According to ESPN Brazil, Manchester City is willing to negotiate offers between £42 million and £50 million for Savinho. This internal decision comes as the club prepares for life after Guardiola, who has announced his departure following a successful decade.
Once viewed as untouchable, Savinho’s fortunes have changed quickly. He has managed just four goals and three assists in 35 matches this season, prompting City to reassess his value. With Guardiola leaving, the club is planning for a new era and sees an opportunity to cash in on the Brazilian international this summer, despite his inconsistent performance.
What Should Be Tottenham’s Next Move?
It’s understandable why former Spurs manager Thomas Frank was interested in signing Savinho last year. Following the loss of key player Son Heung-Min, Frank sought another dynamic winger to enhance Tottenham’s attacking play. Savinho, known for his speed, agility, dribbling skills, and creativity in recent seasons, was a fitting target.
With Roberto De Zerbi now at the helm, it remains to be seen if Tottenham will actively pursue the Manchester City star. At just 22, Savinho has substantial potential and could represent a long-term investment should a deal come to fruition. His versatility in various attacking roles could significantly benefit the squad.
However, if Spurs manage to stay clear of relegation, they should consider testing City’s resolve with an offer below £40 million.
