Currently, Omar Marmoush is positioned as a backup to Erling Haaland in the Manchester City lineup. Pep Guardiola has determined that Marmoush’s most effective position is as a forward rather than on the wing or in a supporting role. Due to this situation, along with a knee injury and Egypt’s AFCON campaign, Marmoush has participated in 34 matches across all competitions for City, contributing 8 goals and 3 assists. While Marmoush possesses the skills to lead a top European team, the presence of Haaland limits his opportunities at Manchester City.

Reports suggest that Manchester City is open to selling Marmoush this summer, but only if the right offer comes along. La Liga champions Barcelona have expressed interest in acquiring Marmoush, though it remains uncertain whether they can meet Manchester City’s asking price.

Manchester City are reportedly willing to sell Omar Marmoush for the right price with Barcelona interested.

Mark Brus has reported in his exclusive Daily Briefing column (subscription required) that Manchester City is open to selling Marmoush this summer for the right price. He further indicates that City has placed a transfer fee of €60-65 million on the Egyptian international. Although Marmoush is not actively trying to leave, he is eager for more playtime.

Additionally, Brus notes that Barcelona’s interest in Marmoush arises partly from the impending departure of prolific striker Robert Lewandowski, which leaves a gap in their squad. However, Barcelona is waiting to see if Marmoush is interested in a summer move before proceeding. Previously, Aston Villa and Tottenham have also shown interest in the player, though their current stance regarding a summer bid is unclear.

It seems that Omar Marmoush may have a decision to make this summer.

Omar Marmoush plays a significant role in the Manchester City squad, primarily providing support for Erling Haaland. Despite being an ideal backup, the intense competition for places in Pep Guardiola’s attacking lineup means that Marmoush does not get as many starts as he would like or require. His chances are further limited by Haaland’s dominance in the squad.

While no one would criticize Marmoush for seeking a move that offers more playing time, any potential transfer must align with Manchester City’s terms. With a lucrative contract and no pressing need to sell, City can afford to be selective. Should Marmoush pursue a transfer, he will need to present an offer that meets the club’s expectations. Whether Barcelona or any other interested party can meet these demands remains to be seen.

Marmoush has a place within Manchester City, but it may not be the role he prefers. Barcelona’s interest in him raises questions about his future, and the decision to leave City this summer will hinge on whether Marmoush chooses to seek regular starting opportunities elsewhere or continue fighting for a larger role within Guardiola’s setup.
