Savinho Excluded from Brazil’s World Cup Squad After Underwhelming Season with Manchester City

Manchester City winger Savinho is nearing the end of his second season with the club. Currently, the Brazilian international remains an unfinished player, having made 81 appearances for City, where he has scored 6 goals and added 16 assists. These statistics highlight the area in Savinho’s game that requires improvement: his end product. Unfortunately for him, this season has not proven effective while performing under Pep Guardiola. He has primarily been a squad player, often utilized as an impact substitute. Given this limited role, it appeared unlikely that Savinho would be named to Brazil’s squad for the upcoming World Cup, which has indeed been the case.

Savinho has missed out on selection in Brazil’s 55-man pre World Cup squad list.

CityXtra has reported that Savinho has been omitted from Brazil’s preliminary 55-man squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup. This decision marks a setback for the young winger, although it is not entirely unexpected. Brazil boasts a wealth of talented wingers, and considering Savinho’s performance this season, his exclusion seems justified. The challenge now lies ahead for Savinho to enhance his skills and secure a more prominent position in Manchester City’s lineup, thereby improving his chances of representing his country.

Savinho has clear areas he must improve to become a regular at Manchester City and, subsequently, Brazil.

While Savinho will undoubtedly feel disappointment over his absence from Brazil’s World Cup squad, this moment can serve as motivation for him to elevate his game. Significant improvements in one key area could change his fortunes.

Savinho’s end product currently falls short of expectations. Scoring 6 goals in 81 appearances for Manchester City exemplifies this issue. He often hesitates when presented with goal-scoring opportunities, leading to missed chances. By honing this aspect of his game, Savinho can work his way into Pep Guardiola’s starting eleven and eventually into the Brazilian national team.

Additionally, Savinho needs to refine his decision-making while in possession. Frequently, he successfully beats a defender, only to hesitate and attempt to do so again instead of advancing. This aspect, along with his delivery into the final third, requires improvement as well. At just 22 years old, there is ample opportunity for Savinho to enhance these elements of his game as he matures.

Missing the opportunity to represent Brazil in this summer’s World Cup is disappointing for Savinho. However, this setback may be precisely what he needs to propel himself to the next level, ultimately benefiting Manchester City in the long term.
