Manchester United Women’s Team Celebrated at Barclays Women’s Super League Awards

Manchester United’s successful season is nearing its conclusion, with the men’s side having already secured a third-place finish and a spot in next year’s Champions League. Meanwhile, the Women’s team has completed its season, finishing fourth and narrowly missing out on European football following a remarkable run.

This year, the Women’s Champions League campaign marked a significant milestone as they reached the tournament finals for the first time, advancing to the Quarter-Finals before being eliminated by Bayern Munich, prompting a shift in focus back to the Women’s Super League.

At the Barclays Women’s Super League Football Awards tonight, Manchester United gained recognition in several categories. Jess Park and Maya Le Tissier were included in the Team of the Season, while Phallon Tullis-Joyce received the Champion of Change award.

Phallon Tullis-Joyce Discusses her Eco Reds Initiative

Tullis-Joyce reflected on her collaboration with the Manchester United Foundation and the Eco Reds program, emphasizing her commitment to marine biology conservation. “In the marine biology space, I think I’ve been really lucky to work with the Manchester United Foundation and the Eco Reds program,” she stated.

She added, “It’s really a testament to all the students. They stay after school, and I bring lots of props, arts and crafts, and teach them about our oceans, our environment, and how amazing they are. It’s all about inspiring the next generation of conservationists. That’s what I love doing with our Eco Reds.”

Manchester United also celebrated Tullis-Joyce’s achievement on their official website, highlighting her contributions to the Eco Reds initiative. “Phallon Tullis-Joyce has had another impressive season between the sticks for United, just one shy of Golden Glove winner Hannah Hampton’s eight clean sheets across the campaign,” the announcement detailed.

The statement continued, “But the 29-year-old has been just as inspirational off the field, scooping the WSL’s Champion of Change award, which recognizes players who positively influence good causes. A certified deep-sea diver with a degree in marine biology, Phallon has used her specialist knowledge to inspire and educate the local community ever since joining United in 2023.”

Additionally, the announcement noted her contributions in delivering lessons on environmental sustainability, leading the Eco Reds program, offering expertise during a recent visit to Chester Zoo, and participating in a workshop to create bucket hats from recycled materials.
