Manchester United Women Hope to Climb the Table as Key Players Return from Injury
Manchester United are approaching the end of the season with success the aim, even at this late stage.
Injuries continue to hinder the club, however, and have impacted depth in key positions.
One of these areas is centre-back with Matthijs de Ligt still out with a back injury whilst Leny Yoro continues to recover from his smaller injury.
Patrick Dorgu also continues to be out with a hamstring problem that he sustained against Arsenal earlier this year although appears to be far on the track to recovery with him participating in individual training at Carrington.
Crucial players continue to be out of action for Marc Skinner’s women’s side, too, as the team aim to climb into the Women’s Champions League qualification places for next season.
Ella Toone has now returned for the side, however, in her first appearance since late December. Coming off the bench in the 63rd minute for Lea Schüller, Toone played the rest of the second half as Manchester United drew 0-0 with Tottenham Hotspur.
The midfielder was injured against Tottenham in the League Cup quarter-final on 21st December last year and has been unavailable to make an appearance since as she underwent her recovery from injury.
Prior to her injury, Ella Toone had made 21 appearances for the team this season, scoring three times and providing eight assists.
Two games of the season remain for United’s women, against London City Lionesses and Chelsea, and it is likely that Skinner will aim to implement Toone into these two games in an effort to gain more points.
Manchester United’s women currently sit third in the Women’s Super League after the draw with Tottenham Hotspur although Arsenal, who are fourth, have three games in hand on the Red Devils.
Toone’s influence may be imperative, therefore, in helping the side fight against the tide and in helping them attempt to qualify for next season’s Women’s Champions League.
