Premier League Clubs Pursue Marcos Senesi as He Prepares for Free Agency

Marcos Senesi is emerging as one of the standout storylines of the 2026 summer transfer window, according to The Boy Hotspur’s Substack. The Argentine centre-back will see his contract with Bournemouth expire on June 30, making him a free agent and a highly attractive option for Premier League clubs.

Chelsea’s interest surfaced earlier in the season but has cooled in recent weeks. In contrast, Manchester United and Liverpool have stepped up their pursuit. United are ready to offer Senesi the chance to remain in England, while Liverpool have tabled a strong proposal, with Arne Slot keen to reunite with the defender he coached at Feyenoord. Liverpool also views Senesi as a cost-effective alternative to triggering Jarell Quansah’s buy-back clause, which would cost close to €80 million.

Tottenham Hotspur have gone further, offering Senesi a contract running until 2030, with an option for an additional year. However, the deal hinges on Spurs retaining their Premier League status, as the player is unwilling to commit to a club facing relegation. Tottenham and Senesi (via his representatives) have reached a verbal/pre-agreement for a free transfer this summer. He is reportedly committed to joining Spurs if they remain in the Premier League.

Aston Villa are reported to have offered an annual salary of €4 million, while Fenerbahçe are prepared to meet Senesi’s €5 million demand, taking advantage of the fact that no transfer fee is required. Borussia Dortmund and Juventus, meanwhile, saw their offers rejected as they fell short of the defender’s expectations.

Senesi’s priority remains to stay in the Premier League, with his salary demands set at around €5 million per year. Although interest from across Europe persists, Liverpool and Tottenham currently stand out as the strongest contenders. Ultimately, both financial terms and the level of competition will shape the defender’s decision in what could be the last major contract of his career.

In Possession: Senesi excels as a ball-playing defender who thrives in build-up play. Progressive and dangerous passing: He ranks in the top quartile (often elite levels) among centre-backs for progressive passes, passes into the final third, line-breaking passes, and dangerous/attacking passes. He attempts a high volume of riskier, forward-oriented passes rather than safe, short options.

Left-footed advantage: His stronger left foot allows him to play incisive long balls, switch play effectively, and deliver passes with a different angle—useful for finding wide forwards or runners in behind. He can carry the ball forward into midfield under pressure before releasing.

Tempo control and creativity: He contributes to transitions with vision and composure. In 2025/26, he has recorded notable assists, showing his chance-creating potential from deep. Pass accuracy is often below average due to his ambitious style, but the upside in progression outweighs this for possession-oriented teams.
