Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has expressed his concerns regarding the lack of recognition for Portuguese coaches in African football. He believes that the contributions of these coaches, including his own, are not adequately acknowledged by football authorities in Portugal.
Cardoso highlighted the achievements of his compatriot, Manuel Jose, who led Al-Ahly to four Caf Champions League titles. He pointed out that Jose’s successes reflect the significant impact Portuguese coaches have made in Africa.
As the Sundowns prepare for their upcoming match against Alexandre Santos, also a Portuguese national, Cardoso reiterated the need for greater appreciation of their work at home, stating, “It’s a shame that even in my country in Portugal they don’t recognise the level of the work some of our coaches have done here in Africa.”
