Peter Schmeichel Returns to FOX Sports for 2026 FIFA World Cup Coverage
Excitement is already building ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with several familiar names linked to Manchester United set to feature prominently off the pitch.
The tournament, set to be one of the biggest in history, will see a strong United connection within the broadcasting world.
That presence continues to grow with another legendary figure confirmed.
Peter Schmeichel is set to return to FOX Sports as part of their coverage team for the tournament this summer, as announced on the FOX Sports website.
“I’m so happy to be joining the FOX Sports team again for this special FIFA World Cup and can’t wait for the opening match on June 11,” said Peter Schmeichel.
“Between all the fans that will be present and the amazing atmospheres, I’m looking forward to experiencing everything the tournament brings with it and sharing my insights with viewers.”
The Danish legend brings a wealth of experience to the role, both as a player and analyst.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers of his generation, Schmeichel built his reputation during a remarkable 20-year career that included spells across Europe.
Before arriving at Old Trafford in 1991, he had already made his mark in Denmark with clubs such as Brøndby IF, after earlier stints with Hvidovre IF and Gladsaxe-Hero.
His time at United remains legendary.
Schmeichel won 15 trophies with the club and captained them to their historic 1999 UEFA Champions League triumph, completing the famous treble.
On the international stage, he was equally influential.
He earned 129 caps for Denmark national team, making him one of the most capped players in the country’s history, and played a key role in their stunning victory at the 1992 European Championship.
He also featured at the 1998 FIFA World Cup, further cementing his legacy on the global stage.
Following his United departure, he went on to represent Sporting, before returning to England with spells at Aston Villa and Manchester City.
Now, he joins a growing list of former United figures involved in FOX Sports’ World Cup coverage.
Javier Hernandez, United’s former striker and Mexico’s all-time leading scorer, was confirmed earlier this year as part of FOX Sports’ World Cup coverage team.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic, one of the most iconic forwards of his generation and a former United star, will also feature as an analyst during the tournament.
Danny Higginbotham, who came through United’s academy and enjoyed a long Premier League career, has likewise been added to the FOX Sports broadcasting lineup.
With so many familiar names returning to the spotlight, United’s influence will be felt far beyond the pitch when the tournament kicks off.
