Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven Open to New Deal if Club Avoids Relegation

Tottenham finds itself in an unexpected relegation battle during the 2025/26 Premier League season, but recent victories have boosted their chances of survival. The future of key players, including Micky van de Ven, hinges on the club’s ability to remain in the top flight. Van de Ven has approximately three years left on his current contract, and no release clause has been reported.

His salary ranges between £90,000 and £100,000 per week, and if Tottenham decides to sell, they would likely demand a significant fee. Reports indicate a valuation between £60 million and over £100 million for his transfer.

Van de Ven is contracted with Tottenham Hotspur until June 30, 2029, following a six-year deal signed upon his arrival from Wolfsburg in August 2023. A recent report from journalist Ben Jacobs suggests that van de Ven is “extremely open” to signing a new contract if Spurs manage to avoid relegation this season. He reportedly enjoys a good working relationship with the club’s current manager, Roberto De Zerbi, whose appointment has lifted both his spirits and the team’s chances of survival.

“You have a profile like Micky Van de Ven that Spurs really want to fight to keep if they go down. That’s going to be very difficult, but I tell you something, if Tottenham stay up, my information is that Micky Van de Ven is extremely open to signing a new deal.

“Now he’s very happy with Roberto De Zerbi as manager, and De Zerbi coming in has enhanced the chances of Tottenham staying up, that Van de Ven signs a new deal, and [Cristian] Romero still goes.”

At 6’4’’ and possessing exceptional pace for a centre-back, van de Ven excels in recovery defending, covering substantial ground, and contributing offensively. He has scored goals both from set pieces and open play. His statistics are noteworthy, with approximately 32 Premier League starts, 4 goals, 1 assist, and significant playing time totaling around 2,773 minutes in the league. He has consistently been a regular starter under various managers.

Our View

This news from Ben Jacobs has generally been interpreted positively, indicating that van de Ven is keen to sign a new deal, provided the team remains in the Premier League. However, it is equally plausible that if the team were to be relegated, he could be inclined to leave without hesitation.
