Whitecaps Aim for Victory Against FC Dallas in Western Conference Showdown
The Vancouver Whitecaps seek to maintain their impressive form as they face a rejuvenated FC Dallas on Wednesday in a Western Conference match in Frisco, Texas.
This game marks the third outing of an eight-game road trip for the Whitecaps, which will extend through the MLS World Cup break and into July. Vancouver had a successful run of six consecutive home games, winning five, before transitioning to the road to allow for the installation of natural turf at BC Place for the upcoming World Cup.
Vancouver (8-1-2, 26 points) currently stands in second place in the Western Conference, riding a six-match unbeaten streak (4-0-2), which includes draws in their last two away matches. The Whitecaps recently tied league leaders San Jose 1-1 on Saturday, with Sebastian Berhalter netting the equalizer in the 76th minute to extend their points streak.
Head coach Jesper Sorensen stated that the team’s travel time presents opportunities for growth off the field. “If we want to show something, we have a lot of time around the training sessions,” Sorensen explained. “Players don’t have to go home or anything. We can call them in for small meetings and show them stuff and videos. Yes, there is a lot of travel, but there’s also time in the schedule to relax a little bit.”
“Points are always important, but it’s also important how we play,” Sorensen added. “We have played and approached the games as if they were home games—hopefully we can take a couple of victories before the break.”
On the other side, FC Dallas (5-3-4, 19 points) has found its rhythm, achieving back-to-back victories, the latest being a 3-1 win at home against Real Salt Lake on Saturday. This winning streak comes after a sluggish four-game winless stretch (0-2-2).
Santiago Moreno and Kaick scored during the first half, while Samuel Sarver capped the scoring with a goal in stoppage time, giving FC Dallas consecutive wins for just the second time this season, drawing even on points with Real Salt Lake for sixth place in the Western Conference.
“We stayed organized, defended together and handled their pressure well,” said FC Dallas coach Eric Quill about his team’s recent performance against RSL. “I thought our guys did a beautiful job with the details defensively and staying compact.”
Petar Musa assisted on Moreno’s goal, marking his 12th contribution this season (10 goals, two assists). He has been particularly impactful, recording either a goal or an assist in seven of his last eight league matches.
