Tottenham Seeks Vital Victory Against Aston Villa at Villa Park
Tottenham Hotspur looks to secure three points as they prepare to face Aston Villa at Villa Park on Sunday. The team’s head coach, Roberto De Zerbi, is challenged to adjust his tactics following injuries to two essential players.
Midfielders Xavi Simons and Dominic Solanke both sustained injuries in Tottenham’s recent victory against Wolves, with Simons ruled out for the rest of the year due to an ACL rupture. De Zerbi faces the task of finding replacements to fill the creative gap left by Simons’ significant injury.
One of the primary candidates to step in is James Maddison, who is recovering from his own ACL injury and has yet to make an appearance in this campaign. De Zerbi has included Maddison on the bench for the last two matches and remains hopeful that he will be able to utilize him in the upcoming weeks.
This week, reports indicated that Solanke is dealing with a grade-2 hamstring injury and will miss the remainder of the season. Though De Zerbi has not confirmed this information, he has excluded Solanke from the squad traveling to Aston Villa.
De Zerbi Anticipates Changes in Starting Lineup Against Aston Villa
The injuries to Simons and Solanke have pushed Tottenham’s injury list back into double digits, marking a challenging phase after a brief reprieve. Fans have expressed frustration over the club’s handling of injuries in recent seasons.
In a press conference prior to the match against Aston Villa, De Zerbi spoke about the attacking options available to him. He hinted that the starting front three could feature Randal Kolo Muani, Mathys Tel, and Richarlison.
“Listen, I want to be clear one time. The most important challenge now is to silence the voice inside of us, inside of the players, the staff, the fans. This voice produces negative thoughts, and the voice says we are unlucky, we have too many injuries. We lost Xavi Simons and he was one of the most important players for us in the past two games,” De Zerbi stated.
“If Xavi and Solanke are injured we can play with Kolo Muani, Tel, and Richarlison. These are not bad players. We have Porro, Van de Ven, Udogie… etc.”
Potential Starting Trio Aims to Lead Tottenham to Victory
De Zerbi faces constraints in defense after losing key players. Since his arrival at the club, Tottenham has seen Mohammed Kudus, Cristian Romero, Simons, and Solanke sidelined due to long-term injuries.
The absence of Simons and Solanke is likely to prompt changes in the starting XI. Mathys Tel, who has primarily been a substitute, may start against Villa. If Tel takes the left wing position, Kolo Muani will provide support from the right, aiming to create opportunities for Richarlison, who is expected to step in for the injured Solanke.
Tottenham fans are hopeful that this new combination can propel the team to a crucial win against Unai Emery’s side.
