Ronaldinho Supports Neymar’s Inclusion as Brazil Prepares for World Cup

Neymar’s future with the Brazil national team has sparked intense discussions as the squad announcement approaches on May 18.

He has not represented Brazil since suffering a serious knee injury in October 2023, and since Carlo Ancelotti assumed his position as head coach, Neymar has not been recalled.

This uncertainty has caused divisions among fans, media, and former players, but Ronaldinho has now made his stance on Neymar clear.

Ronaldinho recently discussed the topic during an interview with Denilson, another 2002 World Cup winner, on Esporte Espetacular. Denilson expressed his belief that Brazil cannot afford to exclude Neymar from the squad, to which Ronaldinho quickly agreed.

“I also think [there’s no way to leave Neymar out of the World Cup]. With all due respect to everyone, but he’s the best of them all,” he stated.

“For me, it would only be possible [to not call him up] if he has injury problems. Now, if he’s fit, there’s no way [to leave him out].”

Neymar Has Three Santos Games Left

Neymar has three matches remaining with Santos before Ancelotti announces the final squad. Santos will host RB Bragantino, then visit Coritiba in the Brazilian Cup, followed by a home game against Coritiba in Serie A.

The cup tie is still at play following a 0-0 draw in the first leg, providing the former PSG star an important opportunity to demonstrate his rhythm, sharpness, and durability.

While Estevao’s injury could potentially benefit Neymar, reports vary on whether this directly improves his chances of returning to Ancelotti’s squad. The Chelsea youngster remains hopeful of participating in the tournament.

Though his chances seem slim, Ronaldinho’s comments bolster the emotional argument for Neymar’s inclusion. If Neymar is fit, he continues to receive strong backing as Brazil’s most talented player.
