A significant internal crisis has emerged within the Senegal national team just ahead of the 2026 World Cup, according to TyC Sports. The squad is currently facing multiple challenges, including unpaid wages and inadequate living conditions.

The primary cause of discontent among players stems from unfulfilled financial commitments. They have not received promised bonuses, including their appearance fees for the World Cup and rewards related to the Africa Cup of Nations, where their initial victory over Morocco was later rescinded by an appeals committee.

Team organization has come under severe scrutiny as well. Players have voiced frustrations regarding their accommodation, labeling the hotel as too modest for a prestigious tournament. They also criticized the quality of food, claiming it does not meet professional sports standards, with some players reportedly opting to order food from outside.

Furthermore, the situation regarding head coach Pape Thiaw remains dire, as he has not received his salary for the past five months. His lack of an active contract adds to the existing legal and organizational complications within the team.
