The transfer saga of Danish striker Rasmus Højlund has concluded, with the player announcing his move from Manchester United to Italian side Napoli. This transition comes after Højlund spent some time with Napoli prior to the official transfer.

In an emotional farewell addressed to fans of both clubs, Højlund shared that his feelings about the move are complex yet profound. He expressed gratitude towards Napoli supporters for making him feel at home and restoring his confidence.

“Now I am officially a Napoli player and I bid farewell to Manchester United. It’s a strange feeling, because throughout the past year I already felt like a Neapolitan. The way you, the fans, supported me made me feel at home and restored my confidence. I am endlessly grateful for that,” Højlund was quoted as saying by the club’s press office.

The 23-year-old striker also reflected on his time at Old Trafford, fighting back tears as he spoke about fulfilling his childhood dream by playing for Manchester United. He indicated that this move marks both a new beginning for him at Napoli and a heartfelt thank you to the Manchester United community.

“Saying goodbye to Manchester United is something that brings a storm of emotions. My childhood dream came true when I stepped onto the Old Trafford pitch wearing the red jersey. That’s why my goal today symbolizes a new, confident beginning where I will give my all for Napoli, and at the same time serves as a thank you to all the fans, players, and staff at Manchester United who helped a boy fulfill his dream. It’s time for new ambitions, so let’s chase them together.”

During his time at Napoli this season, Højlund played 43 matches, scoring 15 goals and providing 8 assists.
