Sunderland are making inquiries with Mariano Troilo’s camp regarding a potential summer transfer for the 22-year-old Parma centre-back. The Black Cats’ interest arises at a time when Troilo has genuinely captured attention, highlighting the rapid growth of his reputation during a single Serie A season.

Sunderland Initiates Transfer Talks for Parma’s Rising Star

Troilo joined Parma on a five-year contract in August 2025 for over €7 million, marking him as one of the most expensive sales in Belgrano’s history, and included a 20% sell-on clause. Initially, he struggled to make an impact, leading many observers to view him as a typical South American player needing time to adapt.

However, since January, Troilo has started 15 games in 2026 and scored a significant goal against Milan in March, along with solid performances in consecutive matches against Inter and Napoli, which presents a challenging schedule. He has taken Giovanni Leoni’s place in the starting lineup and has secured his position convincingly, indicating true improvement rather than mere chance.

ParmaToday commended his attitude and work ethic, noting a physical encounter with Nicolò Barella that showcased his resilience, a trait that quickly endears him to teammates and fans alike. Troilo’s market value has now risen to approximately €9.7 million, yet Parma remain under no pressure to sell and will only entertain substantial offers.

As a player, Troilo features a strong aerial presence, is adept with both feet, and displays the intensity of someone eager to establish himself. However, he currently lacks experience against teams that apply consistent high pressure, and his positioning under demanding conditions still requires development at the elite level.

Is Troilo the Right Addition for Sunderland in 2026/27?
