Tottenham’s Pursuit of Juventus Defender Faces Setback
Tottenham Hotspur’s chances of remaining in the Premier League improved significantly on Sunday without their involvement, due to relegation rivals West Ham losing 3-1 to Newcastle United. This defeat leaves West Ham struggling after a poor start to the match.
A victory for West Ham would have propelled them above Spurs into 17th place, but their loss at St James’ Park has diminished their control over their fate. Tottenham now holds a favorable position for safety, with just one point needed from their remaining two matches against Chelsea and Everton.
Meanwhile, behind the scenes, Hotspur Way executives have begun preparations for the summer transfer window. Recent scouting missions across Europe aim to identify players who can strengthen Roberto De Zerbi’s squad for the upcoming 2026/27 season.
Tottenham Official Travels to Italy to Scout Juventus Defender
As reported by the Italian newspaper Tuttosport, Tottenham dispatched an official to Italy to observe Juventus defender Pierre Kalulu during a match against Fiorentina, following a request from Roberto De Zerbi. The 25-year-old played the full game, although Juventus were defeated 2-0.
The €32m Pierre Kalulu has enjoyed a robust individual season, with 48 appearances in all competitions. Capable of playing as a centre-back or right-back, he has contributed two goals and seven assists for Juventus. His performances have attracted significant attention from clubs across Europe, especially in the Premier League.
Kalulu is reportedly a top target for De Zerbi, who is keen on bringing him to North London this summer. However, a potential obstacle has emerged.
Juventus Plans to Extend Pierre Kalulu’s Contract
Juventus currently has no intention of parting ways with Kalulu at the season’s end. According to the report, the Turin club has accelerated discussions regarding a new contract with the defender’s representatives. He is expected to sign an extension until June 2030, which will also include a salary increase.
This new contract would likely terminate Tottenham’s hopes of acquiring the three-cap France international, who has been selected for next month’s World Cup squad. Kalulu’s versatility, pace, physicality, technical skills, and experience would have made him an ideal fit for De Zerbi’s system, providing a robust option to replace Cristian Romero.
With Juventus nearing an agreement for Kalulu’s new deal, Tottenham must now redirect their attention to other options to strengthen their defense.
