Tottenham CEO Celebrates Roberto De Zerbi’s Extraordinary Impact

Tottenham Hotspur chief executive Vinai Venkatesham has praised Roberto De Zerbi for his remarkable influence on the club following their successful Premier League survival. Venkatesham described the Italian coach’s impact since his appointment in late March as exceptional, emphasizing the board’s complete confidence in him as the summer rebuilding process begins.

Venkatesham’s remarks come in light of the challenging circumstances De Zerbi faced upon his arrival. He took over a team in 18th position with only one point from thirteen league matches in 2026, alongside a fractured dressing room and a significant injury crisis that left eight first-team players sidelined simultaneously. Despite having less than two weeks to prepare before his debut match, De Zerbi managed to secure safety for the club, earning seven points from his last seven Premier League outings. Venkatesham acknowledged this achievement, stating (h/t Chris Cowlin on X):

“I think he has made an extraordinary impact so far. We have to recognise that it’s early days, and we also need to recognise that he’s come into a very specific situation. It is hard to underestimate the scale of the challenge he walked into. And it’s hard to describe what a significant impact he has had in the dressing room with all the players.”

The Players Respect De Zerbi

The reference to De Zerbi’s influence in the dressing room highlights an important aspect of his tenure. Throughout his time, reports indicated that players responded positively to him, unlike their reactions to previous coaches Thomas Frank or Igor Tudor. Training sessions were characterized by enthusiasm from the outset. Changing the mentality of a squad that had visibly lost hope is arguably one of the toughest challenges a manager can face, and Venkatesham’s comments confirm that the transformation was both significant and immediate.
