Tottenham Aims for Quality Goalkeeper Amid Transfer Talks for Bart Verbruggen

Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi has publicly supported Guglielmo Vicario, emphasizing that the 29-year-old remains his first-choice goalkeeper. This comes despite Antonin Kinsky’s impressive performances in Vicario’s absence due to injury. However, recent reports indicate that Vicario has reached a full agreement with Inter Milan for a possible summer transfer.

With Vicario potentially leaving, De Zerbi is in search of a dependable replacement. Tottenham has identified Brighton and Hove Albion’s Bart Verbruggen as a primary target for enhancing their goalkeeper lineup. The Netherlands international has consistently impressed during his time at Brighton, prompting Tottenham to monitor his development closely.

The Spurs boss wants to reunite with Verbruggen, having previously coached him at Brighton. However, Tottenham faces tough competition in acquiring the 23-year-old goalkeeper given the latest developments.

Liverpool Joins Competition for Bart Verbruggen

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Liverpool has entered the race for Verbruggen as they search for long-term successors to Alisson Becker. The Brighton goalkeeper has become a target in light of potential changes in the Reds’ squad.

With Alisson Becker potentially leaving for Juventus—where personal terms for a three-year deal are being discussed—the Merseyside club is keen to expedite their search for suitable replacements. Losing the Brazilian star would significantly impact Liverpool, making Verbruggen an attractive option.

Since joining Brighton from Anderlecht in 2023, Verbruggen has made a name for himself as one of the Premier League‘s standout goalkeepers. At just 23 years old, he still has ample room for growth and would thrive at a top-tier club like Liverpool. For Tottenham, acquiring Verbruggen could help address their ongoing goalkeeping issues.

Verbruggen would enhance the squad’s stability and offer reassurance on the field, serving as a potential upgrade over Vicario. However, with Liverpool’s interest, Tottenham may need to explore alternative options if they wish to strengthen their goalkeeping personnel. The club has also shown interest in Cagliari’s Elia Caprile, who has been scouted this season, though his priority on Tottenham’s target list remains uncertain.

As the situation with the Brighton goalkeeper develops, it remains to be seen whether Tottenham will challenge Liverpool for Verbruggen or if they will pursue other options.
