Tottenham Eyes Maghnes Akliouche as Summer Transfer Target
Tottenham Hotspur is preparing to pursue a new creative attacker in the upcoming summer transfer window. The quest to enhance their attacking department may see the club rekindle their interest in Maghnes Akliouche, a talented player from Ligue 1.
The AS Monaco playmaker has been on Tottenham’s radar for some time, with the left-footed talent previously linked to a move to White Hart Lane.
Spurs were eager to add a creative player during the January transfer window to offset the injuries of James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski. They sought to recruit Akliouche at a reasonable price; however, no deal came to fruition, allowing him to remain at AS Monaco. The 24-year-old has emerged as a standout performer for his club, contributing seven goals and 11 assists in 42 games across all competitions. As a result, he has earned a spot in the French squad for next month’s World Cup.
Tottenham Monitoring Akliouche’s Future
As Tottenham looks towards summer, their pursuit of Akliouche has become more complicated, particularly with Manchester United reportedly interested in the AS Monaco star. The Red Devils have been scouting the young Frenchman, but it remains uncertain how highly he is ranked among their targets. Nevertheless, INEOS is focusing on strengthening their frontline ahead of a return to the Champions League.
According to a report from Football Insider, Spurs have requested updates on Akliouche’s status should he be allowed to leave Monaco. The Ligue 1 club is reportedly prepared to sell their exciting talent to fund a squad overhaul.
“Maghnes Akliouche is obviously a player who’s been on their radar for a long time,” said Pete O’Rourke on the Transfer Insider podcast (h/t Football Insider).
“Tottenham will be keeping tabs on him, and they are looking to be kept informed on his future. Monaco are well aware of the growing interest in him and probably would sell at the right price.
“For Tottenham, I’m sure they’ll be looking to be in that race for him. But I think it’ll be difficult for them just due to that lack of European football and because of the probably rival interest from other clubs.”
Challenging Negotiations Ahead
Despite previous failed attempts to secure Akliouche, Tottenham still considers him a summer target. The 24-year-old is regarded as an ideal fit for Roberto De Zerbi’s system due to his playmaking skills, movement, and dribbling. However, the challenge remains that with no European football next season and several clubs pursuing his signature, it will be tough for the North Londoners to finalize a deal for the promising French talent.
