The San Antonio Spurs have achieved two consecutive Rookie of the Year awards and have All-Star guard De’Aaron Fox on their team. On Wednesday night, Devin Vassell secured their 10th straight victory.
Vassell scored 21 points and made 5-of-6 three-point shots, helping the Spurs fend off a determined Toronto Raptors team, which held Victor Wembanyama to 3-of-12 shooting. The 25-year-old forward’s recent performance has been a key factor in the Spurs’ ongoing success.
Devin Vassell boosts Spurs’ offensive game
The Spurs have a solid offense, but they lack consistent outside shooting. This is where Vassell excels. He has made 16-of-25 three-point attempts in the last four games and has a season shooting percentage of 37.8% from beyond the arc.
This is important for a team that depends on Vassell and Julian Champagnie for much of their three-point shooting. Together, they average 4.9 of the Spurs’ 13.1 three-pointers per game, with Harrison Barnes contributing 1.9 per game at a 37.5% success rate. Unlike many catch-and-shoot players, Vassell’s ability to shoot from the outside creates more opportunities for Wembanyama, as he also possesses strong passing skills.
