Tottenham linked with surprising Premier League player.
Under interim head coach Igor Tudor, Tottenham Hotspur is working to ensure their Premier League status for next season while aiming to build a competitive squad.
It’s crucial for the North London team to acquire quality players that can enhance the squad and provide depth. One major issue affecting Tottenham’s recent performances has been an ongoing injury crisis, forcing them to field teams without several key attacking players for long stretches.
James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski have yet to play this season, while Mohammed Kudus, Richarlison, and Dominic Solanke have also had significant absences. Additionally, the club surprised fans by selling last season’s top scorer, Brennan Johnson, to Crystal Palace during the winter transfer window.
Further compounding their situation, it has now been confirmed that Wilson Odobert will miss the remainder of the season due to an ACL injury.
Tottenham shows interest in Jadon Sancho
With Johnson’s unexpected transfer and Odobert’s injury, Tottenham’s wing options are quite limited. This situation indicates that the club may look to sign a winger during the upcoming summer transfer window.
A recent report from SportsBoom indicates that Tottenham is one of several clubs interested in Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho, currently on loan at Aston Villa. A return to the Bundesliga might be in his future, with Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen monitoring him.
Since his £73 million transfer from Borussia Dortmund in 2021, Jadon Sancho has not performed up to expectations at Manchester United. His value has declined over the years as he fell out of favor under the last two managers, Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim. Sancho spent last season on loan at Chelsea, but they chose not to make the move permanent.
Currently at Aston Villa, Sancho’s performance has been disappointing, recording just one assist in 15 Premier League matches. Manchester United plans to part ways with him this summer as they will not extend his contract when it expires.
Spurs should avoid signing Sancho
With Sancho’s departure from Old Trafford nearing, a free transfer could appeal to clubs across England and Europe. However, for Spurs, taking a chance on him may not be wise.
As Tottenham prepares for a significant rebuild this summer, the new permanent manager will likely seek young, eager players to launch his era at the club. At nearly 26 years old and having struggled at United, Chelsea, and now Villa, Sancho may not fit this profile.
Given his inconsistent performance, fitness issues, and high salary demands, signing him for free could still pose a significant risk for Tottenham. They should consider other options instead of pursuing Sancho.
